Top 5 Reasons To Practice Medicine in New York City

We heard that you're thinking about moving to New York City to practice medicine, so we put together a list of things for you to expect/look forward to in the even that you choose to settle there. There's a much longer list of reasons to move to New York City, but these are just our favorite ones. We've never been, but after putting together this list, we want to pack up and go there ourselves! Just remember, no matter where you choose to live, make sure you research it thoroughly — you'll be there for awhile.

There is an abundance of diversity.

Diversity is one of New York City's greatest attributes. You can find cultures of all kinds here, and about 36% of the occupants in NYC are from other countries. Sometimes, you can hear up to 800 different languages spoken when walking around the city. Not only did a lot of people initially immigrate to New York City, but a lot of people have moved there from other cities and countries recently. Everyone has their own story in New York city, and they're all vastly different. If you run into someone and strike up a conversation, you're likely to get a taste of their culture in that short amount of time.

You can get anything you want at any time of the day — it's a convenient place to be.

What do we mean by this? If you want steak at 11:30pm, you're likely to find a place to get it within a few blocks of wherever you're staying. All of the shops you could ever want to go to are just sprinkled around the city, so if you're in a hurry and want to get everything done in one trip, it's definitely doable. If you're looking to drag out your errands and spend your weekend checking things off your list, you can do that, too! Everything is so convenient all of the time, and that's part of what makes people stay.

The energy of New York City is unlike that of any other city.

When we think of New York, we think of the buzzing of the city. People in New York City seem to be full of energy. Granted, it takes quite the personality to willingly move to New York City. The city itself is so full of life, and it seems that no one ever sleeps (and that's probably where it got its nickname, "The City That Never Sleeps"). They say that people who live in Los Angeles or choose to move there are bold, but I'd say that the people who choose to move to New York City are on a whole different level. They have a different kind of ambition, and a different kind of motivation to chase their dreams.

There's a wide variety of things to do, and you don't have to travel far.

If you happen to get bored in one part of the city, you can hop on the subway and in less than an hour, it's as if you're in a different country or on an entirely different planet. Don't worry if you get tired of going to the same places around your apartment — just hop on the subway and go to another section of the city. Odds are, you'll find exactly what you're looking for. You could live in New York City for your entire life and still not be able to eat at all of the restaurants, see all of the Broadway shows, or visit all of the neighborhoods — that's how vast it is.

The city may be enormous, but once you get settled, it won't feel so big.

Even if you're more of a small-town kind of person, you could still find your place in New York City. It might be daunting at first, but once you get to know your way around and you get settled, it will truly feel like home. The people who live in New York City are normal people just like you — they might seem different, but their end goals are similar to yours. There are so many neighborhoods in New York City that it's hard to keep track of them all, but those neighborhoods will begin to feel like a cluster of small towns. See? Just like home!

There's the list — 5 reasons that people like living in New York City, and why you should consider moving there. Sure, there are other cities, but there's nothing that could even compare to this one. Feel free to email us at [email protected] with any suggestions or additions you have!
