Are you already practicing medicine or getting ready to start and you're looking for a place to do so? We know that you don't have time to scour the internet for resources, so we've put together a short, five item list for you in an effort to ease the burden a little. Below, you'll find five reasons we think you would enjoy living in Chicago. These reasons aren't in order, they're just our favorites and are also the ones we figured would be most helpful to you in your search.
If you're a big fan of food, you'll love Chicago. Every July, they hold a food festival called The Taste of Chicago. The festival has regional and international dishes alike, so whether you want to keep it closer to home with a deep dish pizza or you want to branch out and get some yellow curry, they've got you covered. Speaking of deep-dish pizza, it came from Chicago starting back in 1943. There are no records on who made it or where it came from, but it seems to be a household staple for residents all across Chicago, along with Chicago-style hot dogs.
Whether you're interested in the classical music scene, you love shopping, or you plan to fill your weekends (at least the first few) with tourist-y things to do, Chicago has everything you'll ever need. You can check out live music at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, take pictures with Cloud Gate (also in Millennium Park), shop at the Navy Pier, or go shopping in the Chicago Loop. Or, if you want to just sit and eat or rest and enjoy the view of the river, you can head over to the Chicago Riverwalk.
It might not be the first thing you think of when Chicago comes to mind, but beaches are definitely still existent in Chicago, and these ones seem to be pretty sought after. From the North Avenue Beach, you can get the scene of Lake Michigan while viewing the city lights. Occasionally, there are international beach volleyball competitions held there. A few other beaches in Chicago try to compete with North Avenue Beach, but it doesn't seem that those other ones even compare.
Famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright is the mastermind behind the amazing houses that are in Chicago. You can find most of his creations in the heart of Chicago, where his artwork is practiced most often. The upper- and middle-class societies are the ones who most times live in these houses created by Frank Lloyd Wright. The first skyscraper was actually built in Chicago in 1885, and the standard height for them was 10 levels. Modern skyscrapers are defined as being at least 492 feet in height.
Chicago gave the music world Blues, Jazz, Rock & Roll, and Hip-Hop. Interestingly enough, house music (a genre of EDM) was developed in Chicago. There is an abundance of music venues in Chicago, some of the most popular being the House of Blues, The Hideout, Blue Chicago, and Jazz Showcase. Whether you create music or you just enjoy listening to it, Chicago could be the perfect place for you!
