A patient who may have a disorder or condition requiring surgery in the chest area is taken care of by a thoracic surgeon. A few of the conditions a thoracic surgeon may come across are airway obstructions, valve disorders, artery issues, tumors in the thoracic cavity, chest wall problems, esophagus issues, and more. The reconstruction, replacement, and or repair of parts relating to the thoracic area are done by a thoracic surgeon. Along with the operations side of this specialty, a thoracic surgeon may also have the job of managing the diseases within the thoracic cavity as well.
