Any child that has a chronic or persistent condition caused by bacteria, fungus, a parasite, or another rare infection is examined, managed, and treated by a pediatric infectious disease physician. There is a variety of different types of infections that may occur in a child. Some conditions that may be seen by this type of physician include, but are not limited to: meningitis, tuberculosis, AIDS, severe bone infections, serious respiratory infections, infections within the joints, unidentified illnesses, and hepatitis. This type of physician generally works within a larger hospital or setting, but a physician also has the opportunity to work and own their own private practice.
